The county treasurer is responsible for collecting taxes; and in the case of delinquent taxes, the treasurer may order the sale of real property to pay delinquent taxes. The treasurer also receives distributions of local income and other taxes that are collected by the state such as real estate tax, personal property tax, mobile home tax, state assessed tax, and the following miscellaneous taxes: auto excise tax and innkeeper's tax.

As an officer on the County Board of Finance, the treasurer is responsible to deposit, invest, and account for all monies entrusted to Jennings County government. Together with the auditor, the treasurer ensures the proper distribution of funds. (Generally see IC 36-2-19 for duties of the county treasurer).
